Celebrating Resurrection Season
It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade. ~ Charles Dickens
It’s Resurrection Season, a time when both the Spring Equinox and the beginning of Easter week remind us of the cyclical nature of life. Were it not for death, life would be a pointless redundancy; seasons of growth depend upon seasons of death and dormancy. Seemingly resurrecting themselves from the depth of the earth, blossoms arise, after taking weeks to germinate in darkness and silence. Like Nature, we go through cycles of death, dormancy and resurrection throughout our life cycle. Flowing with our cyclical nature grounds us in the here and now. When we welcome the ebb and flow of the seasons, we grow gracefully in harmony with Nature.
Springtime in the norther hemisphere brings with it the wonder of watching dead twigs burst forth into vibrant flowery life, reminding us that a glorious renewal lies camouflaged within darkness, death and dormancy. Featuring the poetry of Catherine de Vinck, these essays explore the light and shadow that makes up our human nature.
The New York Botanical Garden celebrates the season with its annual orchid exhibition. Recently, I visited on a March day when it was summer in the light and winter in the shadows. A steamy rainforest inside the conservatory, it’s a feast for the eyes where orchids star in a women’s fashion show.
That last pic is so beautiful, Katie! Thx for your thoughts during the seasonal transition. We got 2 feet of snow over the weekend here in NH! I'm probably the only person who was thrilled. It's still winter here - no matter what the calendar says. :)
Gorgeous all of it❤️
