“An awake heart is like a lighthouse helping others to find a safe way home.”
― Rolf van der Wind
You’re a lighthouse, meant to shine brightly in stormy situations, Sensitive Soul. Mature, experienced and compassionate, you excel in helping others through times of crisis. Your brilliant light can illuminate a path to safety, but only when it’s firmly anchored. Trouble arises when you become ungrounded: Your energy scatters, your bright light dims, and your foundation starts to crumble, leaving you feeling battered and lost. Like raw electricity, your energy is awesome, powerful and life-saving, but to be used effectively, it needs to be well grounded. Create a rock-solid foundation for yourself by grounding so that you can shine as only you can.
What is grounding? It’s the ability to harmonize your energy through contact with nature or through activities that nourish you deeply. Grounding calms your nervous system and reconnects you with your authentic self. It enables your intuition to present you with tangible guidance in practical situations. It helps you manage your resources optimally and make wise decisions.
What is ungrounding? It’s a failure to manage your energy effectively. For example, you unground yourself when you squander your energy, allowing it to be pulled in a dozen directions without limits. You devalue your energy when you prioritize other people’s emergencies/preferences over your own OR when you surround yourself with toxic people, environments or too much technology.
If you’re feeling fatigued, disconnected or confused, you probably need to anchor yourself in your body and soothe your frazzled nervous system. The more you incorporate grounding habits in your everyday life, the less you’ll be pulled off center by urgent (but often unnecessary/unproductive) demands made on your time, resources and attention.
Love yourself enough to recharge: B-r-e-a-t-h-e. Put your devices down for a while and just live your life in the present. Spend time in nature (barefoot if possible). Take epsom salt baths. Eat good food. Play with children or animal friends. Move your body. Sweat. Orgasm. Laugh. Cry. Discover new ways to schedule time to replenish yourself and ground your powerful energy so that you can ground your light and shine as only YOU can.
Meditation: Meditate in nature to deeply ground, calm and focus your energy. Visualize yourself as a tree in as much detail as possible. Breathe into your roots, your trunk and your branches and take in the nourishment of sun, water and air.
Journal or Just Ponder: Are you having enough fun? Laughter, fun and joy ground you instantly. In relationships are you a “first responder” always on call for other people’s emergencies while neglecting your own concerns? Is work taking over? Is your energy being sucked out and fragmented by too much screen time? Will you love yourself enough to put “grounding appointments” on your calendar?
Affirmations: I breathe deeply and my breath anchors me in the present moment. I replenish my energy with rest, healthy foods and plenty of water. I am rooted and connected to Earth. I schedule time to be alone. I am centered. I am grounded.
